Publishing on close

It appears to me, bsed on various tests, that a project plan is getting
published whenever it is closed in Project Pro. Is this true? I thought that
you either had to explicitly publish a project or take advantage of the auto
publish on save. I am not using the auto publish. I ran a test by sending
updated hours via a timesheet. I accepted all of the changes and updated the
project. I save the project. The changes are not visible in PWA or in OLAP
reports. That is what I expected. I then closed project pro without ever
publishing. All of the updated hours are now visible in Project center and
OLAP (after cube regen). I did not expect that. I thought the data was not
visible in PWA until it was published.

Your understanding was accurate and operative until SP1. Since SP1, all
projects plans are published on save and close, and visible in the Project
Center. Assignment publishing still requires and explicit action from the
Project Manager. Plan visibility, however, is no longer restricted to plans
that are explicitly published. I hope this makes sense.

Gary,
Thanks for the quick reply. Is this a "feature" or a bug with SP1. I am
looking for a way for a PM to be able to accept changes and make changes but
not make it visible to all immediately. Any thoughts other than working with
files?
