Publishing Projects having actuals with Managed Time Periods

We are using PS 2003 with SP2a and are in process of moving the local Project
files from PM's desktop to the Project Server and have come across a typical
situation as we are using Managed time periods.

Most of the Projects that are to be published to the server have the actual
hours reported in the project and the PM wishes that the actuals be ported to
PS when the plan is published.

We are able to publish the actuals by turning off the actual hours and then
republishing the assignments and selecting the option to overwrite the
actuals. However, this results in the typical Error messages from PS such as
"Your project Server's tracking setting was changed since you last saved this
project" which shows up a number of times when a PM opens the project after
the Managed periods are turned on.

Is there a way by which we can publish the plan with actuals (keeping
managed periods on) so that not all PM's get the Error messages?
Is there a better way of publishing the actuals to the Project Server?

Gary,

We have discovered in the recent past while posting the plan (with actuals),
the historical actuals gets re-calculated.

Can you share with me what all things to look for, before publishing the
plan to the Project Server? Like matching Resource Calendar , etc...

Till now i had to correct the actuals by opening Project Professional and
checking the actuals hours in local plan vs the one on Project Server for
each resource and for all the time intervals and that too on a daily basis
into the timesheet... it was a time consuming job. Is there any nicer way of
doing that?

It sounds as though you may have calendar differences between the EPM
environment and what you used on your desktops.

I have loaded the local calendars to the Enterprise Global and then assigned
calendars resources as specified into the local file, then i proceeded to
bring the local project to Enterprise. To my surprise, even this time the
Historical actuals got recalculated.

Am i missing something?

Hi,
I have the same problem when i using the import wizard. After the
importation, my actuals is change. I try ti ajust all actual and i switch
server to unmanaged. I republished all assignements with a checked in
overwrite all server actual. I switch the server to managed time period
and for some of my imported project it's fonctionne correctly but for other
the actual in past change!!!!!!!!!!!! More, Project put actuals in futur in
some of project!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOW I try to create project from scratch
(not imported) and at this time, it's run correctly.
