publishing site

I just got fp 2003 and imported my existing site into front page. Now when I
try to "publish" it, I can't get anything going. Use http deal and my
server has enabled fp extensions. Should I just start over and create a new
site?

Don't "import" your site.
Open the site on the server in FrontPage and then use File > Publish Site and "Publish" it back to
your hard drive.

While you do this, the server version will be the "local" web and your computer will be the "remote"
web.

Then close the server version and open your newly published "local" site.

The import function only imports what is seen by a browser, so shared
borders, include files, navigation structure, themes, asp pages, databases,
etc. are not imported.

You may try to open the remote/online web and publish to your local
computer.

I have a similar problem. My site was first done in Frontpage 2000. It has
now reached about 1,800 pages. And I was getting timeouts when uploading new
pages to the site. My host provider told me to break it down into subwebs.
I did and the results were good. So I felt like I could stick with
Frontpage. I then upgraded to Frontpage 2003 and the timeout problems have
come back. What did I do wrong. I just opened my Frontpage 2000 site in
Frontpage 2003, made some changes and published. How do I fix the problem.
It also seems to runs slow. Saving pages, working with Shared Boders, etc.

I want to get this fixed then change the themes and at the same time build a
new site in FP 2003.

My host provider is now telling me that the problem (timeouts) is caused by
the fact that my site is now 25 MB over my quota. It worked fine right up
until I uploaded the the 1st time with Frontpage 2003. Could the combination
of the 2 formats cause some extra "junk files" that would put the site over
the limit?

I have also heard that with FP 2003 I can delete or remove some unneeded
files that prior versions put out there.

Thanks

Jim

First you need to get you site back down to your limit, as that could be the cause of your time
outs. The usual cause of going over your disk space limit, is the storage of the server log/stat
files for your domain within your web space by your host or have the space used added to your
account, if stored outside of your web root.. If you are not sure about the log files, you need to
ask your host if this could be the cause.
