I purchased office February 2008. Do I have to buy a new copy for my new
laptop. That seems kind of rediculous when I have already paid for it.
Please help? If I can how do i install on the new laptop?

Thanks so much

A retail version of Office 2007 permits you to install the license on
one (1) desktop PC and one (1) laptop PC.

Not quite - one PRIMARY device, (and the EULA doesn't specify whether
this should be a Desktop or a Laptop) and one PORTABLE device.
So you could install on two laptops, always assuming that both are owned
by the Licensee and that they are not in use simultaneously...

You are being creative with the Office 2007 licensing agreement. No
where in that agreement does it state that "that they are not in use
simultaneously...". Sheesh!

From Office 2007 Pro retail license:
1. OVERVIEW. These license terms permit installation and use of one copy of
the software on one device, along with other rights, all as described below.

It does say "use of one copy". If you are using it on a primary and backup
system at the same time, then you are using one copy on two devices. I'm not
a lawyer but I'd be willing bet that's the way MS sees it.

Just offering an opinion - that's all.

You install it using the download setup files that you saved together with
key, or from your retail version of the office cd

But none of you have addressed the OP's dilemma. He paid for and downloaded
Office 2007 a year ago. He now wishes to install it additionally on his new
laptop. How does he do that? No disks. If he downloads it again he,
presumably, has to pay again to do so.

Well if the OP didn't make a backup of the downloaded install file, then
he's been a bit silly to put it mildly.

Now he knows the reason for keeping files and backing them up. Now he'll
need to contact the vendor from where it was purchased.

When you consider the cost of Office, the idea of not making some sort of
backup disks or spending the extra money for the license lockbox is a bit
short-sighted.
