Purchasing educationalyl licensed version

I was about to purchase an unused, unopened Office 2003 (full version) from
someone. I discovered that it is licensed for educational use. Since I am not
a teacher or student, it is OK to purchase this. If so, will I run into
problems trying to use it

Technically its a breach of the EULA, but nothing will happen if you install
and activate it.
No verification is required, in the UK, to buy, retail, an Academic Licensed
version

I would rather do everything on the up and up and buy it from someone else.
Besides, I already have Office 2002, so I really don't need the full version
of 2003, just an upgrade.

Since you prefer to do things legally (and for that I thank you), may I
suggest you consider getting the upgrade to Office 2007 instead?
