purging exernal data references in Shape Data

I have an org chart that is linked to an external data source.
I delink the external data source.
However, when I open the Shape Data window, there are fields from previously
linked data sources.
When I link to a new data source, the old Shape Data fields are not removed
and block my ability to format new linked data.
How do I purge the old Shape Data fields in the existing file?
To test this, I created a new org chart. None of the old Link Data fields
are present, and I can successfully format the new data on the new chart.
So ... after deleting a link to a data source, how to also remove the
references to those fields in Shape Data. IN other words, how to start
"fresh" with an existing visio org chart?

I don’t think just because you unlink a shape from a data source it will
remove shape data from a shape sitting on the drawing page. If there is a
shape and has shape data fields that are different from your linked data
source it will not overwrite the fields. If the data fields match your
linking source the values could be overwritten however. So for example you
have an Org shape that has A, B and C shape data fields. You link a data
source to this shape by creating an external link to let’s say an Excel
spreadsheet. This data source has shape data A and B but not C. When you drag
the link from your external source window and place it over the shape on the
page the values for A and B might change but nothing happens to C. I did my
testing with the sample file which is included with Visio 2007. Perhaps there
is a problem with your drawing. You may want to remove all shapes from the
page and run the Org wizard to create a new drawing.
