Putting a project on Hold (Pausing than resuming)

I am trying to find some help on putting projects on
hold. We do Architectural design and some projects need
to be place on hold due to many factors. Is there any
one that can tell me how to pause a project and than
resume it at a later date.

Thanks

Tools | Tracking | Update Project ... and select "Reschedule uncompleted
work to start after".

Partially completed tasks become split tasks. The split occurs at the work
actually done. Not started tasks are not split and are moved to the future.
Exisiting predecessor/successor linkages are maintained.

I would approach your situation from two different directions:

1. I believe you need a formal method in which to designate that a project
is on hold. This could be accomplished by the use of a custom enterprise
Project outline code field, set up in the Enterprise Global. This field
could contain outline code values like: Pre-Approval, In Progress, On Hold,
Cancelled, and Closed. You could create a custom Project Center view that
would include this field, so that both filtering and grouping could be
applied to that field in the view. Your executives would be able to see "at
a glance" the status of every project in the portfolio.

2. Secondly, I believe you will want a methodology for determining a
"resume" date for a project that is placed on hold. For example, are
projects routinely put on hold for a week, a month, 6 months, or what? Once
you have established the "resume" date for work on the project, you can
reschedule the uncompleted work using the method set forth by John Beamish
in his previous post.

Hope this helps.

Hello M.Clark,

I have a similar question, but based on your options
people can still put hours against the project from their
timesheets.
