Putting an ampersand in an item in a combo box in Word

I want to use this instead of "and" but all I get is an underline

Am using Office XP 2003

How are you adding the item to the combo box. Using

ComboBox1.AddItem "This & that"

results in the item

This & that

being added to a combobox for me.
