PWA 2003 - Limit Actual Work To Not Exceed Work

Is there a way in PWA 2003 to prevent users from entering more 'actual
work' than assigned to them in the 'work' field?
With my current configuration, if a user is assigned four hours work
on a task, he can still enter eight hours actual work. Is there any
way to prevent him from doing this? I know I could reject the time,
but since the 'work' field will also adjust to eight hours, I may not
remember he was originally assigned to four. Furthermore, even I had
the baseline information handy, I'd still rather automate the process.

No, there is no way to prevent a user from entering more Actual Work than
the planned Work. Therefore, this becomes a training and performance issue
with your team members. Out of curiosity, exactly what are your team
members expected to do if you plan them to work 4 hours but the job takes
longer? I don't quite understand what you are trying to do. Let us know
and we will try to help.

Hi Dale,

I agree...it is a training issue with team members...I was making sure
I fully understood the limits of what resources were capable of
doing. A project manager was concerned about resources entering more
time than she originally assigned to them. If a task went over the
alloted hours, I believe she wanted to be notified first and adjust
the schedule from Project Pro, rather than finding out with actual
work and PWA.

BTW, based on the help, you indirectly sold me on your Project 2007
book. I just purchased it about thirty minutes ago from your
website.

When will the Project Server 2007 books hit the shelf? Any plans for
Project Portfolio book?

Thanks,
Andy
