PWA 2007 My Work View & Custom Field Issue

G

Gary Zag

Using PWA 2007 SP1 with Infrastructure Update. The My Work view
configuration does not show custom enterprize fields that use formulas and/or
graphical indicators in the available fields list. Is this a bug?

I want to show the Critical field to team members so that they know the task
is on the critical path. The default Critical field does not show in the
list of avalable fields. I added a custom enterprize field with the formula
of [Critical]. This custom field does not show in the available field list
either.

Gary --

I can confirm your findings. I created a custom enterprise task Flag field
with the formula [Critical] and used Graphical Indicators in the field as
well. I did select the "Roll down, unless manually specified" option as
well. This field is not available on the list of Available Fields for
either the My Assignments view on the My Tasks page or the My Timesheet view
for the My Timesheet page. I have no idea whether this is a bug or by
design, but it is obvious that the system will not allow us to add a custom
field with a formula to the My Tasks page or My Timesheet page. I am not
aware of any way to work around this limitation. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for confirming that it is not something that I miss configured. How
do we get this into Microsoft's hands?

Dale, to save me trying various permutations, have you by any chance
discovered what varieties of Custom Enterprise Fileds CAN be displayed in the
My Tasks view? many thanks.

I believe the only limitation is that you cannot use a custom field that
contains a formula. You can use "free entry" fields that do not include a
Lookup Table or a formula, and you can use fields that include a Lookup
Table. Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks Dale. Everything you write helps! I'm developing a workflow for
Task Updates that prevents the team member from slipping in a date change. So
my plan was to have a calculated "Task Start" field that just copied in
Start, and likewise for Finish. Because of the "feature" we just discussed
my approach now is to use Baseline Start and Finish instead Start and Finish.
This can't be modified by the team member, but it requires a higher level of
maturity on the part of the PM (they will have to Baseline and maintainthe
plans). Also of course I lose the feature in My Tasks where the upcoming
tasks show as yellow, pink etc. Oh well. Thanks as always.
