PWA - Error is project could not be opened in Microsoft Project

W

Wendy

In PWA Project Center there is a button called Open in
Microsoft Project. When I select this button for any of
the projects, I receive an error message that the project
could not be opened in Microsoft Project. The error box
around it says it is a VB script error.

I am able however able to open the project from Project
Professional.

Could this be a Internet Explorer setting issue?

I could not find any knowledge base article with this
error message.

Thanks for your help,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I am seeing this exact same error,

You need Microsoft Project Professional 2002 or Microsoft
Office Project Professional 2003 in order to perform this
action.

If you are using either of these versions, verify that a
correct account for this Project Server has been set up
and selected by pointing to Enterprise Options (Tools
menu) and then clicking Microsoft Office Project Server
Accounts. If you are unable to start Project with the
correct account, contact your server administrator to make
sure that the enterprise features have been enabled on the
Project Server.

I am stilling having the same problem opening projects
button in Project center after taking everyone's advice
including:

1) Ensuring that the account in Project Pro exactly
matches the URL as for PWA using Enterprise Options,
Tools, Microsoft
Project Server Accounts

2) Made the account default in Project Pro

3) Made sure the URL was the domain name/real Project
Server name. We are not using http://localhost.

4) We have Microsoft Project Professional 2002 installed.

5) Microsoft Project Professional is closed

Mark, in your help you also mentioned: "If you are
unable to start Project with the correct account, contact
your server administrator to make sure that the
enterprise features have been enabled on the
Project Server." We have no problem opening Project
Professional Account just using the Open In Project
Professional button under Project Center. Can you be
specific on which enterprise feature need to be enabled.

If anyone could give me any additional steps that I could
try I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Wendy

How are you saving the projects, are they enterpsire projects or standard projects. If they are standard projects Project Server 2003 try's and opens the file from the machine where the standard project was saved. IE if you saved the project on testmachine1 d:\test.mpp and you went to testmachine2 and tried to open the same file it will give you an error because it is looking for the file on d:\test.mpp and because it doesn't exist on testmachine2 it won't open.

As with enterprise projects the whole project is saved in sql and can be accessed anywhere.

These are definately enterprise published projects. They
have been saved to Project Server and published. You can
see them in PWA under Project Center and Project detail
view. You can open the project from mutiple computers.

Thanks,
Wendy
