PWA Missing

One of my users claim to have deleted a workspace / Library and now the PWA
configuration is missing from the server. We have the database on a SQL box
and when I try to recreate it, the PWA project states "The database
specified is already used by another project server. Enter a different server
or database name and try again. " How do I re attach the web server to the
database?

Firstly this couldnt happen by a user deleting a workspace or list (unless
that user was doing that in Central Admin), so I can only assume that
something else has gone badly wrong.

Check your SSP, if no PWA sites are listed as Provisioned under the Project
Server configuration, then try restarting your IIS and SharePoint timer
service and check again.

Failing that your SSP configuration may be bad, one way to test this would
be to create a new SSP then associate your Project server application to the
new SSP. Then ideally move any remaining configurations over to the new SSP
and remove the old one.

If you can't make such drastic changes then to get you up and running doing
a backup / restore of your PWA databases with new names and provisioning a
new site off that will get you going. HOWEVER next time you do a service pack
this will come back to haunt you with some psconfig errors!

Either way this issue sounds like something that used to occur around the
time of SP1, I haven't heard of this kind of thing occurring lately. If your
not running SP2 and the latest updates, I'd suggest that once you have
corrected this issue upgrade ASAP.
