When you add a resource to the Enterprise Resource Pool, a User account is
created automatically for that resource in Project Web Access, and the
resource is automatically added to the Team Members group. If you enter a
Windows User account for that resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool, then
the method of authentication for that resource is set to Windows
Authentication. So, first of all, for every resource in the Enterprise
Resource Pool, there will be a matching User account in Project Web Access.
EXCEPTION: If you create a generic resource in the Enterprise Resource
Pool, and formally designate it as Generic (on the General page of the
Resource Information dialog box), then NO User account is created for that
resource in Project Web Access. Generic resources do not need User accounts
in PWA, since they are a placeholder resource generally used for skill
matching or for use with the Resource Substitution Wizard.
Secondly, you will have some people in your environment who need a User
account in PWA, but who do not need to be in the Enterprise Resource Pool.
A good example would be your company's executives. It is unlikely that they
will perform work on a project, so they don't need to be in the pool, but
they do need to log into PWA to view information about your company's
project portfolio. Therefore, you would probably create an account for each
executive in PWA individually, and then add them to the Executives group.
EXCEPTION: Some executives will actually serve on a project team and will
perform some work in a project. In this case, these executives should be
added to the Enterprise Resource Pool, which would create a User account for
them in PWA automatically. You would then need to add them to the
Executives group in PWA.
Hope this explanation helps.
