PWA vs Client access to Project Server

Jon

Just wondering if there's information posted as to what people can do
with client that you can't do with PWA access to project server. Or at
least something basic that compares the two and how they interact with
Project Server.

I realize the client version is needed to publish the schedules to the
server and that usually the PWA is a way to provide access for those
without the client on their desktop.

thanks

When you say client are you referring to Project Professional?

If so, then Project Pro is typically used for Project Managers and
Resource Managers. You have to remember that team members, team leads
and executives do not need to capabilities of Project Pro and will not
be able to open a project on Project Server (unless you give them
permission)

Ask a PM if they we would approve team members or executives opening
their projects. But make sure you plan your emergency exit <g>

....and another thing
Project Pro costs more than a PWA license.

Thanks...we've already purchased the product and need to determine who
should get PWA access and who should have the full desktop installation
to access schedules.

My understanding is that professional gives you full capabilities to
use a schedule and PWA doesn't let you add/change/delete activities.

Hi Jon,

You are correct Jon, but the key point that I'm trying to make is that
you *can* give everyone Project Pro, but the REAL problem is giving
permissions to *all* users to open projects on Project Server. Plus
you'd never do this.

Hope this makes sense?

But here's your software and license shopping list:

Project Professional
Project Managers
Resource Managers

Project Web Access
Project Managers
Resource Managers
Anyone else you want to give access to view project data

Good Luck
