PWS FP2002 Question

Crash Gordon

Howdy...me again.

I only have one old website to convert (redesign) once I do this all my local copies of webs will be FP2002 (rather than 2000, 98, 97 , 1 etc).

Once I do this can I SAFELY get rid of PWS? None of my new webs seem to need it...in fact I think it causes some problems when I do use it...

Thoughts?

If you wish to use disk based webs rather than server based webs, that's
your choice. Should not be any problem.

Oh, so it's only needed for disc based webs now. Ok I should keep it for that rare occassion then. Nice to know.

Thanks.

The PWS is needed for server based webs, not disc based webs.

Ok, now I'm confusted.

Of the 4 or 5 webs I service on & offline the only one that asks me to start the local PWS when I want to work on it locally is an old FP2000 web. This is the one I will redo soon. The ones that don't ask me to start PWS are all FP2002 created webs.

My server is running Apache/Linux.

Are you saying PWS is still needed even though it never asks me to run?

Sorry, but I'm really confused now :-(

Hi Rob,

If you want the functionality of a web server locally you can use IIS
(depending on your operating system though) This is good for things like
testing asp pages before publishing to your server.

If it isn't important to you..you can get rid of any local web servers you
have and simply create disc based webs.
