Q About Flash Player etc.

Avoid Flash on such sites unless you have a specific and compelling reason
to use it. Remember the Flash on the templates you are examining is to
attract *you*, not the person who might be visiting the site you are
building.

I've been looking at templates from various template resources to do a
couple new sites with.

One thing is bothering me, though -- it seems that almost all include some
kind of flash video or something similar, and I'm concerned about creating a
site that will cause visitors to have to download anything. These are
business sites and the idea is to not inconvenience customers.

Any words of advice?

TIA

Don't use templates?

If it's for a business site, you shouldn't be using them anyway. Most
templates have a cheesy, cookie-cutter look about them, and don't project
the professional image most businesses want to acheive.

Thanks; but this has to be done on a budget (which means we can't spend
thousands on website development). So, we're just trying to walk the line
between cost and functionality.

A year or so ago, I posted here links to a couple of sites we had asking for
suggestions on how to improve them. The consistent view at the time seemed
to be that templates are the way to go. Since that time, we've used some,
and I haven't been displeased with the results (they're a lot better than we
can do on our own!). While we are professional software developers, we
aren't professional web developers, and can't justify spending a lot to
hiring pros.

But thanks for your input...
