Q: Force IE to download from website?

Mark

A few users go to our intranet and download a daily file (which has the same
name). I guess day 1, they download the file to the cache. Day 2, IE thinks
the file in the cache is okay and re-loads from cache, not taking it from the
website.

I'm wondering 2 things:
1) How to update IE so that it ALWAYS downloads from the web
2) How to force IE to download a given file from the web and not reload from
the cache (I thought SHIFT-F5 would work, but it doesn't always work, and the
file the users download is an Excel file based on a dropdown)

Thanks!

Nothing to do with MS Office products, but the answer is to set "clear
the temporary internet files" when IE is closed. See, tools, Internet
Options, Advanced.

Thanks,

I wasn't sure if IE was an "unofficial Office" product. When I searched the
group, I found IE posts and responses, so I thought they'd be answered here.

In any case, I already know about the solution you gave. Works, except it
clears some files that users don't want cleared. I was hoping there'd be a
way to force IE to download a particular file from the website instead of
reloading from cache, without clearing out everything.

I'll post to an IE related group...

Thanks again for the response.

You're welcome, sorry about the "user issue".

Set the browser's cache to a lower size and set the radio button to "Every
visit to the page". I never have any trouble with ours being set to "1 meg"
and "Every visit to the page".
