QAT files created for every document

I'm getting a Qat file created for every office document created, i.e if I'm
working on cashflow.xls and bordeom.doc, it autocreates a copy of the emtire
document as cashflow.qat and boredom.qat.

Has anyone else come across this and can it be stopped?

Where are the *.qat files stored? It is possible to customize the QAT for a
specific document but those changes are stored with the file. But the files
do need to be in the new file format so this wouldn't apply to *.doc and
*.xls files.
