Query stops working

I have mail merge documents, which link to Access queries, but on a computer
with Access 2000 they have suddenly stopped working. The reason appears to be
that the queries will not run because Access has stopped recognising
functions such as right and format. Any suggestions? Do I need to reinstall
Office?
