Question about Custom Views

I assume I am simply missing a step here, but how can I create a custom view
for my project?

I have a project that is saved and published, using the global templates and
views. Nothing extraordinary. I want to create a view for me (ie, not a new
global view). I goto View, More views, copy the gantt chart view and call it
Ken's Gantt Chart View, OK, APPLY. I insert a couple columns into the new
view.

Save the project. Close it. Open it back up. The new view, Ken's view is
there, but the custom columns are gone. Using Project 2003. Help.

In Microsoft Project, a View is defined as the following:

View = Table + Filter + Group + Screen

Before you create a custom View, you should create a custom Table containing
exactly the columns you want to see. Make a copy of the Entry table, or any
other Table that is close to what you want, rename the copy, and then add
the columns you want. Then you can create the custom View and select your
new custom Table. This way, the columns in your Table will "stick" in the
project. Hope this helps.
