Question about envelop / addresses lost in new Word 2003

Hello, My company recently updated our computer with MS Office 2003, and
now all the addresses that I had entered in Word for envelopes are gone. I
know I can reenter them in Word one at a time, but is there some way to
ressurect them. Someone suggested a Mail Merge - but I did not have the
addresses stored in Outlook - I just added them directly in Word from the
Tools drop down. I really appreciate any advice - Thanks in advance.
