Question about {Private} in Word document

I went and asked on another NG, (no answer) but I think I didn't explain the
problem properly. My daughter sent me a document that had {private},
including these things around the word, in certain places, which is only
visible when I click on the print preview. How can I delete these {Private}
things. Any help is appreciated. She is using Office 2000 BTW

Do not delete the Private fields without first finding out why they are
there.
Private fields are inserted by apps for particular purposes.
If you delete them, you may break some app that works with the document.
Also, MSFT itself inserts Private fields for certain purposes.

The fields will be visible ONLY if you have hidden text enabled and show
field codes.

These fields often occur in documents converted from WordPerfect. They
contain information to facilitate converting the document back to WP. As
Howard suggests, they do no harm and might best be left alone if you don't
know their purpose, but I've never suffered any adverse results from
deleting them. Just select the entire field and press Delete.

They are also used in the old IA hyperlinks.
Best not to tempt fate. Leave them be.

To stop them showing up in Print Preview, you need to uncheck the "field
codes" box in the Tools | Options, Print tab, or possibly the "hidden text"
box in the same place.
