Question About Upgrading Microsoft Office

A

I previously had installed Microsoft Office 2000 Professional.

I subsequently bought an Upgrade version of Microsoft Office XP and
installed it.

Do I have to leave the Office 2000 on the computer in order to use the
upgraded version?

You don't *have* to but if you don't, it will ask you to point to the
qualifying product so you'd have to insert the CD from the old version of
Office. If it was my system, I'd leave it in and just install the upgrade.
Then I'd make sure I put the CDs in a safe place that I could remember along
with the product key.

You post states that you have already installed Office XP. If you still
have Office 2000 listed in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, then it is
likely that:
You did not allow Office XP to uninstall Officer 2000, or
You have applications such as Publisher which were installed with Office
2000 but were not included in the Office XP edition you installed.

In either case you can safely use Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs to
remove any left over Office 2000 applications. However, I would first check
that you are not removing a Office 2000 application not included in Office
XP that you still use.

Since Office XP is an upgrade, the Office 2000 CDs must be retained as part
of your license.
