Question on Resource Cost View

J Burford Fields

What is the difference between the Standard Rate, Overtime Rate, and
Rate fields that I see in Project Professional 2003's "Resource Cost"
view? It appears to me that the Rate field tends to echo what is or
was in the Standard Rate field.

I've read some of comments about these fields in this group, as best
as I can search, and still am not clear.

I don't see a default Resource Cost view anywhere in Project Professional
2003, so you will need to be a little more explicit about how you got to
that View. I can tell you that the Standard Rate is used to cost all
non-overtime work. The Overtime Rate field is used to cost work explicitly
entered in the Actual Overtime Work field. Hope this helps.

Well, this might be a mystery. Under the view pull-down menu, above
the "more views choice" I have a section between two bars that
includes "Resource Cost," "Resource Sheet," and "Resource Usage." I
know it's not just on my installation as I got the question from our
EVMS consultant who has a new instalation of Project Professional 2003.

I think you are seeing a custom enterprise View and Table created by your
Project Server administrator. The default Views in the Resource section of
the View menu are as follows:

Resource Graph
Resource Sheet
Resource Usage

There's no default Resource Cost view. You may need to ask your Project
Server administrator about this one. If there is a field called Rate in the
Table included in that Resource Cost view, hover your mouse pointer over the
Rate column header. The tooltip will tell you the real name of the column.
From your description, it sounds like the real name is Std. Rate. Let us
know what you find.

On a more seious note. It is the Custom Field: Resource Text 3. It
has no formula. My suspicion, now, is that this view is due to the
operation of a product that was installed to aid in EVMS reporting,
"Project Connect." That product was purchased and is now owned by
Deltec.

I took your earlier advice and got rid of "actual" resource costs.
This field, it seems, is retaining them. I will have to look through
all the views and see where similar vulnerabilities exist. I presume
the Administrator Guide will give me a list of the views that are "out
of the box?"

Thanks again, Gary.

No, our Administrator book does not document the default Views that ship
with Microsoft Project Professional 2003. The default Views are the same
between the Professional and Standard versions, except for the Enterprise
Gantt Chart view, which is a duplicate copy of the Gantt Chart view. If you
have questions about any of the default Views, feel free to ask them here.
Hope this helps.
