Question regarding tabs and line wrapping

If I'm using text (as opposed to table) and I'm tabbing to various columns,
is there a way to automatically wrap a column to the next line down if it
would otherwise cross into the next tab space if it is longer than the space
alloted?

No, there is nothing automatic. This is precisely what tables are for...
