QUESTION. . .

M

Marian Arbabi

WHY IS YOUR 'MICROSOFT.PUBLIC.ACCESS'
SUDDENLY SHOWING UP ON MY COMPUTER ???
There are over 170 messages on this field today in my email program.
They are listed in a file called 'MICROSOFT.PUBLIC.ACCESS'. I do not know
what you are or what this service is. All the correspondence are to and
from other people, talking to each other.
I do not know how it showed up on my computer. AND. . .I cannot get it
off !!! Nothing will delete.
How can I get 'disconnected' from this .

You've subscribed to the public News Group for Microsoft Access (the
database application from Microsoft Office), where people from all over the
world can post questions to solve Access database problems, and if anyone
knows the answer, he'll reply back. The only way I know how to subscribe to
a News Group is to manually point and click with the mouse to open the
subscription dialog window and to choose the News Group, then subscribe. If
you didn't do this yourself, then I'll suggest that somebody else who has
access to your computer did this for you.

I'll hazard a guess that all you need to do to get rid of this News Group
from your E-mail program is to right-click on the name of the News Group,
then select "Unsubscribe" from the pop-up menu. You may need to delete the
Microsoft.Public.Access file from your hard disk, too, if your E-mail
program doesn't do it for you. If these instructions don't apply to your
particular E-mail program, then I would suggest contacting your ISP for
assistance.

Gunny: The headers for Marian's post shows that it was posted using
Entourage, which, as far as I know, is only available for Macs. That implies
right-clicking won't be possible! <g>

I wonder if anyone has ever broken their middle finger trying to Right Click
on a Mac Mouse. <g>

Hi, Doug.

A Mac! No wonder Marian was so offended! She probably thought I was being
facetious (instead of just showing my own ignorance) about how to get rid of
this mysterious Microsoft service from her computer.

Thanks for the enlightenment!

Gunny,

You didn't earn any such comment. You got MVPeed upon by someone who should have paid a bit more
attention to your original reply. Your original words of wisdom included the following:

"If these instructions don't apply to your particular E-mail program, then I would suggest
contacting your ISP for assistance."

Obviously, right-clicking doesn't apply to a Mac. The trivia about the message being posted using
Entourage was really not value-added in my opinion. The instructions didn't apply, so Marion
needs to contact her ISP. She probably also needs to take a few classes to understand how her
new computer works.

Tom

My definition of "MVPeed Upon"
Refers to an Access MVP who either basically repeats good advice given by others (who have not
been anointed with this title), or offers advice which clearly indicates that they have a reading
comprehension problem.
