I have a Word template that runs a macro when a new document is
created from it but the macro won't work when the template is accessed
via a link on a web page. Anyone know why and how to overcome this?

That problem has plagued me for several years. One thing you might
trie is to look at how IE openes Word documents. Set it so the
document opens in Word and not IE.
