Quickly Changing Styles in Word XP... why the change?

Astronaut Greg

In older versions of MS Word, it was simple to change the style (or create a new one) simply by making whatever changes you want to a specific text (ie. font, paragraph spacing, etc.), then highlighting the text that changed and type in a new Style name in the toolbar. However, it doesnt work the same way in XP. I have found that the only way to change a style is to have the formatting sidebar open, make changes to the style itself, then that changes the styles in the body of the document

Is there a simpler way to do this? I like to add a TAB or a slight font change to my documents and applying that font change to an existing style (or making a new style for it based on the old one).... but this process is far more tedious in this version

Any thoughts, or am I overlooking a very simple "modify styles like old versions of Word" setting somewhere

Thanks

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Prompt to update
style."
