Quickly Moving Names from One Cell to Another

J

JER

I am a teacher and am new to Excel. I want to make a chart in Excel showing
seating positions of students in a class room. I need a way to quickly
change the names from one seating (from one cell to another cell) position
to another on the work sheet. Can't seem to find a way to drag and drop or
something similar. How do I quickly select a name in one cell and move it
to another without select/cut/paste? Like drag and drop. No formulas in the
sheet. Just names.

With great appreciation
Jerry

Hi
- move the mouse to one of the cell borders
- hold down the CTRL key
- drag the cell to a new location

without holding down the CTRL key this will move the cell content

Jerry, first click a cell, then:

1-take your mouse and point at the cell pointer (the black box around the
cell). Your mouse cursor should change from the big plus sign to a white
arrow.
2-when your mouse cursor becomes a white arrow, press and hold the left
mouse button
3-drag the cell pointer to a destination cell, and...
4-release the mouse button.

If this doesn't seem to work for you, you might want to be sure that,
<Tools> <Options> <Edit> tab,
"AllowCellDrag&Drop" *is* checked.
