quotes not appearing immediately as you type

Hi,

I have Word 2003, and quotes (either single ` or double ")
don't show when I type them, but only appear after I have
typed another character, such as a space, another letter,
or a 'return'. I have tried turning on and off all of the
smart quote options. Any suggestions?

This is not so much a Word application error as it is a sign that you have selected a non-English keyboard layout in Windows. If you have Windows XP, click on Start | Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Text services and input languages: Details | Settings.
