How can I write the scientific notation for R squared?

Select the 2 and make it superscript. The shortcut for the Superscript
command is Ctrl+Shift+= or you can go to the Format > Font dialog and check
the Superscript box.

Alternatively, hold the Alt key while typing 0178 on the number pad (with
NumLock turned on) to get the character ² .
