Rack Diagram - Rack Mounted Equipment

Heya,

I noticed that the shapes in that particular stencil 'glue' to the rack
shape but that the actual shape that's being placed on the rack is wider than
the location of the 'end points' on it.

How did they do this? We have a number of REALLY old rack mounted servers
and i drew these in Visio but i can't figure out how to get that 'shape is
wider than the points it glues on' thing going on them.

Any help much appreciated :)

Regards,

I think the graphics are loaded into a 1-D shape that is grouped. Then the
size of the graphics are GUARDed against resizing, so they don't follow the
size of the group.

Try this:

- Draw a line horizontally
- Group it
- Format > Behavior > 1-D behavior (makes the group a line)
- Copy your network equipment shape
- Select the line-group and click Alt + E + O (open group)
- Delete the line inside
- Paste your net graphics
(bug: you might have to zoom way out to find it when you paste...)
- Window > Show ShapeSheet after you've selected the network shape
- put guarded formulas in the Width & Height cells for the shape.
The formulas should contain static values like Guard(3in) That way, the
shapes won't resize with the group.

Hope this helps,
