Random movement of cursor

I am operating on a dell 5100 laptop using Office 2003. When typing in a
word document, I find that the cursor hops back to a previous spot denoted by
the vertical line where I started. Anyone with a fix on this?

This is usually because the touchpad is oversensitive and just gentle
brushing past is simulating a mouse click. Somewhere you should find the
setup for the touchpad with options to change the sensitivity or disable the
tap-to-click simulation.

Dell D630s are very prone to this, so I imagine the Dell 5100 is as well. It
is most easily solved by reinstalling the driver for the touchpad.
