Random SharePoint or permission based problem

We have something very strange happening with InfoPath and SharePoint
library's. We have been using InfoPath as a timesheet solution.

Very occasionally about once a week a user save their timesheet and close
down InfoPath. When they attempt to re open it will say that they either do
not have permissions or that another user has it open and prompt them to
open a read only copy.

If another user attempts to open it however they can open the InfoPath form
without a problem.

Restarting the users computer does not fix the problem. What is happening
here and how do I fix it?

Cheers

Damon,

What versions of InfoPath / SharePoint are you using?

Thanks,

It's been happening with the standard InfoPath. The version of SharePoint is
SharePoint portal server.

Just recently, I encountered an instance myself where SharePoint wouldn't
open a file I had read-only. I couldn't repro it either. It worked itself
out even without a reboot. Someone else who had the file open read-only had
close theirs, but that shouldn't have mattered (is that a possibility in
your case?). At this point, I'm not sure I have a good answer for you yet.
What version of Windows are you running? That may also be a factor.

Thanks,
Lee

Windows XP SP1 with Office 2003 Professional.

No other users had the files open read only, when they have been locking.
The files do fix themselves without a reboot after awhile.

I just discussed this with the SharePoint folks. I believe the problem is
that if InfoPath doesn't shut down properly, the lock on the file will
remain on SharePoint for about 10 minutes. This can happen for different
reasons. The best solution is to reboot and wait for about 10 minutes for
the lock to be released.

Thanks for that Lee.

Can help me with one of my other posts that I have not got a reply with. The
post is 'Editing a SharePoint Portal server published InfoPath form'.

All I want to do is modify the XSLT in a view thats in an existing published
InfoPath form.

Sure, I can hopefully help you out. To edit an existed published InfoPath
form on SharePoint, you can go to Modify Columns and Settings in the
SharePoint Library view and click Edit Template to open the template in the
InfoPath Designer. If you need to hand-edit the XSL, you'll need to Extract
Form Files to a project folder. When you're done, you'll just re-publish
over the existing library.

Cheers Lee,

That worked perfectly!
