RBS and Resource Usage Permissions

Greetings

I'm hoping someone can help me with implementing RBS and Resource Mgmt

I've read in a MS article that implementing a RBS and Resource Mgmt system can restrict users outside of a branch of the RBS from assigning a member of that branch of the organization to a task

Is this so? If so, how does one implement this? I have set up a RBS structure and it work for RBS filtering, etc ,but not for restricting individuals not in a branch of the organization from assigning those resources

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Look at the settings inside the Categories that your users belong to.
There is a section covering resources and there are some check boxes
that cover which resources the users in a category can see. There is a
permission there that says something like "users in this category can
see resources they manage" The way project server determines which
resources they manage is through the RBS. You "manage" any one below
you in the hierarchy. If all the PMs were members of a Category that
had this permission checked they would only be able to see (and
therefore Assign) the resources that fell below them in the hierarchy
of the RBS. Those in other branches would be invisible to them.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, I will check that out. I knew it had to be something simple after all of the other "bugs" we've run into.

Brian:

That did work when a person is assigned to only the "my resources" category. However I'm running into "an error has occurred" when I try to remove those permissions from the "my projects" category so that only those persons who are a part of the "my resource" category can see resources. Do you ahve any ideas what could cause this?

Thanks,

Ryan

I would post a new post with the steps you went though and the exact
error. Look in the Event logs as well. :)
