Re-installing Publisher 97

R

Robert Thompson

Hi
I have a copy of Publisher 97 that was originally
installed on my laptop.
Now I want to also install it on the PC.
However, when I do so it will not satisfactoriy install.
The initial error message reads "Mspub has caused an error
in KERNEL32.DLL. Mspub will now close."
I think it has something to do with the product code not
being recognised. I have lost the original code on the
disk case. I am using the code number that comes up on
the screen when the publisher loads up on the laptop.
Thanks for your help.
Bob

This is an extremely common problem easily fixed.

Rename the MSPub.exe and the MSVCRT40.DLL in the Windows System folder and
copy directly from the MS Pub CD the above two files to your Publisher and

Windows\system folder.

If you do not have enough experience to rename the MSVCRT40.DLL from Dos,

then follow these instructions here to do it.

Close ALL programs press the CTRL ALT+ DEL keys and end

ALL tasks except for Explorer and Systray, then open Explorer and rename

the MSVCRT40.DLL to MSVCRT40.XXX
