Re-request for Info: Rule

E

Eric J Owens

Does anyone have any insight why the rule 'with specific words in the
sender's address' will pick up the domain name in the address of any
incoming mail except those that originate on the same Exchange servers where
my account exists?

Does anyone know of a reference for Outlook (2003) rules?

Thanks and appreciation

There is no header in exchange mail. is the domain listed in the x400
address? Exchange doesn't use SMTP addresses for internal mail.
http://www.slipstick.com/rules/serverbased.htm. In most cases, the rules
work the same in all versions, except never versions of outlook have more
options.

to filter for exchange mail try an exception to address contains '@' rule.

Thanks, Diane, and much appreciation for your help. I found the '@' trick
late last night and appears to be working just peachy. Does using the
information in the x400 address work the same as in the smtp addresses?
This is an example of the x400 addresses in our mail (I am guessing the 'p'
value to be domain--since I did not find a break down at slipstick, outlook
tips, or the ms kb):

c=US;a= ;p=ATT;o=USNJ01;s=<firstname>;g=<lastname>;i=<middleinitial>;

If Exchange mail does not have headers, what is the information in the
'view/options' window listed in the Internet Headers field? The very top of
the data says:

Microsoft Mail Internet Headers Version 2.0

Does this information only appear once the mail reaches my client (OL2k3),
and therefor server side rules don't see it? I am using an inbox vs. a pst
folder and all my rules run on the server.

i don;t think so, but i never tried. you can create rules to test and apply
flags or categories and use Run Now.

The smtp connector adds it. Since internal mail never uses the smtp
connector, you wont get headers on internal email. Mail inbound from the
internet will have headers.

it's independant of the storage or rule situtation.
