Read deleted emails show as unread in deleted folder

When I read an email and delete it sometimes the email shows as "unread" in
my deleted folder. It is not with every email and it only started happening
a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Are you reading it in the Reading Pane? By default, there is a delay between
when a message is displayed in the Reading Pane and when it gets marked read.
If you delete the message prior to it being marked as read, then it will
remain unread and appear that way in the Deleted Items folder as well.
