Read e-mails disappear suddenly

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Email Client: pop Strange but truth. Since today (I am using Entourage for some months without any problems) suddenly read e-mails disappear totally.
Does somebody know what is happening. And what I can do with this problem?

Do you have unread or flagged only selected under View in the Menu bar?
