read only files

I was using microsoft word 2003 yesterday and could edit the work with no
problems. However, later on that day, I went back to continue the work and
the message 'No modifications could be made because this document has been
locked' appeared at the bottom of the screen. I have tried to use the help
prompts both off and online but to no avail, but I think I have discovered
that all my files are now 'read only' ones. Any help on how to unlock these
files would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe you have a trial version of Office 2003, and the trial
period has ended. Or maybe you have not activated your Office
software.

What happens if you start Word and click on Help | Activate
Product? If you are already activated, a dialog box saying so
will appear. If you are not activated, the Activation Wizard
will start. If you have an expired trial version, a dialog box
will prompt you to enter a valid product key or convert (purchase
a key) online.
