Read Only Files

Everytime I try to reopen a file that I have saved on my computer, it tells
me that it is read only and I cannot change it from the properties screen.
What do I need to do to turn off whatever is making this happen?

When I go into properties of a folder, the box next to Read Only is checked.
I remove the check, click "Apply", check the box that asks if this should
affect all files and folders under this particular folder, I click that
option. Then I click OK. I close out of the folder, then when I go back in,
the "Read Only" box is checked again...

This is frustrating because before I can edit any of my documents, I have to
save it to another name. I want to remove whatever is making the computer
save everything as read only, but I'm not having luck doing so.

The "Read-Only" you see in folder properties is no indication of the
status of the files or folder. It's ONLY purpose is to allow the user to
SET and UNset Read-Only on the files contained within. Ignore it because
that isn't what is causing your problem. You should look to see if your
anti-virus program is set to use an Office addin, or to scan files you
are opening, THAT will cause the file to appear to be in use and result
in the Read-only problem.
