Read only on files that are not read only

K

k.

I have a file that I often "copy/paste/rename/edit/save"
but sometimes, and not all the time, it says the copied
file is "read only." Well, I don't know how this is
possible if the original file is not read only, and the
copy is nowhere marked as read only. I would like some
information as to why this is happening, and why it is not
a consistent thing.

What is the exact message you are encountering and how are you opening
the document? File/Open? Double-click from an Exploring window such as
the Desktop or My Computer?

Additionally, what version of Word are you using and what patches do
you have installed? Take a look under Help/About Microsoft Word to
find this information.
