"Read Only" protection in XP Professiona won't uncheck

Documents sent over LAN from a Win98 machine to XP
become "Read Only" on the XP and can't be uncheck using R-
CLick\Properties\uncheck green box\click on Apply.

When I then try to delete, error message indicating "Read
Only" has again been applied. There is no such problem
reading the document in Win98.

Suggestions?

Hi,

I have had the same problems relating to Office XP I
think. You can monitor it's behavior on the "open files(
resources)" management console from the fileserver. Office
XP locks the file (most of the times 3 lock I believe,
read and write) and the kind of "loses" it probably
because of time-out considerations. The server doesn't
know it and keeps the locks for the particular client. The
client tries to get a new lock but guess what ...

I have had this on different sites with different customers
(always office XP with remote LAN-access for the files).

Strange things going on ...
