When you say you have tried 'Everything' to 'turn off' ReadOnly on your
document,
Exactly WHAT things have you tried?

Restarted Word?
Restarted your computer?
Restarted your server(if you have one)?
Checked the file permissions on your file?
Made a copy of the file and tried opening that?
anything else??

Cheers,

ChrisM.

Is this file on a your computer, or are you accessing a file on a server, or
some other computer across a network?

If your computer is 'stand-alone' that is not on a network, does anyone else
use it? If so, do they log into the computer with a different name?

Why? One a file is on a disk, you can't just change that file. The file MUST
be on your hard drive for you to change it.

And by the way, posting in capital letters is considered yelling. And since
you are requesting help, that would be detrimental to that purpose. As a
matter of fact, that would be rude. You don't want us to think you are rude,
do you?

It is obvious that English is not Yoshioka's first language, so he/she may
not be aware how rude he/she is being even without the caps. But I think
general density is at issue here, too. IOW, we're wasting our time. Pretty
soon he/she will conclude that we are "WERDIOS."

And where are these files you are trying to open located? Is it just one
file, or does it happen with ALL files?

C

ChrisM

Are you always trying to save these files to CD?
If you are, then chances are they will be ReadOnly. CDs are designed to be
ReadOnly. Your best bet is to save the file to your hard disk, and only copy
it to a CD when it is finished, that is, it doesn't matter if it becomes
read-only.

One other thing, if you save a file to CD, then copy it to your hard disk,
it will usually still have the ReadOnly option set on the hard disk copy.

Finally, as far as I know, there is no way of 'turning off' read-only in
word, it is more to do with how and where you save the file.

Hope you manage to sort it out...

Cheers,

Chris.
