Reading an invisible hit counter

B

Bob Richardson

I followed the instructions in
HOW TO: FP2002: Insert an Invisible Hit Counter

and inserted some invisible counters. After publishing, I went to my web
site, and yes, they were invisible. When trying to read the hit counter I
could not follow the instructions. When I right clicked on the .cnt file I
did not have an "open with" option. I transferred that .cnt file from the
web back to my computer and doubled clicked on it. That brought up a
promising program, but it said the count was 000000. What am I doing wrong?

At the remote web site, the file WIWA_Body.htm.cnt in the _private folder
shows a red circle with a white X in it, just to the left of the file name.
I don't know what that means.

That means it's marked as "do not publish" which shouldn't affect anything.

Have your host check and make sure that "server write" permissions are set for the _private folder.
