Reason for Green triangle

Why do several of my cells in my spreadsheet have a green triangle....and when selected, an !

The green triangle means that Excel has detected an error in the formula in that cell, and the picture of the exclamation mark is the help function to assist you in fixing it. If you click on the arrow next to the button it should bring up a list of options.
