Hello:

I see that Addison-Wesley has released "Designing Effective Database
Systems" by Rebecca Riordan (ISBN: 0321290933). Just to confirm: Is this the
new version of Rebecca's "Designing Relational Database Systems" that so
many of us have been waiting for?

:) I can assure you, from first hand knowledge, that the book will be well
worth whatever you pay for it and anyone who doesn't have a copy should be
jealous... hehehe.

Hey Lynn:

Got my copy this morning. Have been reading for 4 or 5 minutes; I've already
discovered I've been misinforming my students for years. I've always told
them the term "relational" was derived from the fact that tables are
relationally linked. Now I know that isn't correct. Sigh... the lyf so
short, the craft so long to lerne... (Chaucer).

It's an attractive and nicely designed book. Sadly, however, it isn't nearly
thick enough, or big enough or intimidating looking enough to impress people
who see me reading it into thinking "Wow.. he must really be some kind of
computer wizard!". I guess I'll have to keep the ADH handy for that.. ;)

I am just now looking to get a book on dn design. Is this a
replacement for her earlier book? That is, I don't need both, right?

It is my understanding that this is an updated version of the original. You
don't need both.
