Aloha fro hawaii

Everything works fine however when I rebuild the database the new identity that is generated cannot launch. Error message is that it cannot access my data.

If I revert to the back up identity it goes back to work.

Also outgoing mails stall occasionally and requires a program restart.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

What is prompting you to rebuild? Rebuilding is not something you do unless
you absolutely need to get Entourage working again.
If I revert to the back up identity it goes back to work.

First make a duplicate of this Identity that opens in the Finder. If you
feel you must start in a new Identity, then you can manually move your data
out as long as you have an Identity that opens.

How to manually move your data:

Also outgoing mails stall occasionally and requires a program restart.

This just sounds like server connection problems.

Aloha and many thanks for the reply. Very kind of you.

If it means anything I have been a Mac tech for our school system on Maui for the past 15 years and have much experience moving around and repairing MUD (microsoft user data) files. This is atypical. With that said I don't know it all and and defer to your knowledge.

I am rebuilding now because iSync recently wiped out my Apple address book and passed on the loss to entourage. I backup my MUD manually & regularly since I know Time Machine fails with this file so it was not a problem when I lost my contacts. However when I successfully inserted the replacement file and did a rebuild to smooth out any potential problems I got the the Error message and failed to launch. The rebuilding process seems to corrupt the file.

It works now however if I do need to rebuild the database in a future traumatic moment when it is larger then its present 1 GB size I don't want it to choke.

I have created a new identity and replaced the components with my populated components to no available. By the way the failure also occurs on the same identity on my Mac Book Pro as well as on my desktop Zeon Quad.

I would like to know what is causing the rebuild to fail. I can't help thinking there is a glitch in my identity that will come back to haunt me at the worst time. I am trying to be proactive.

Thanks again for your professional help.

I have seen reports of the Entourage 2008 rebuild going belly up on new
imported databases. However, when you manually move over the data to a new
Identity, the rebuild works. I'm guessing there is something amiss in the
imported data.

Now, let's look at why you chose to rebuild... You lost data during a sync,
replaced the data...so why did you rebuild? This had nothing to do with
database problems.

See my post if you can find it using the Mactopia's search a post about the
database and rebuilding.

Re: Entourage 2004 crashes at title screen

Posted today.

Includes words of wisdom from Jud Spencer, the father of Entourage.
It works now however if I do need to rebuild the database in a future

Can you be more specific how you populated components? I created a web page
just on moving your data over as I have answered this so many times on the
newsgroup.

As I mentioned above, $#@! Happens with new 2008 Identities.

BTW, when you reply, I to go back and see what was said before because I
like many users are using newsreaders. We don't see what you see on the web
forum. Did you realize this is not a web forum, but a web interface to this
newsgroup? The Mactopia web interface is just one way to access. If you can
do an email, then you can use the Entourage newsreader.

Another benefit is messages are downloaded and searchable by Entourage's
Spotlight search. By clicking on the "more" button you can get older
messages to search for help.

Aloha

I manually rebuilt according to your instructions. It worked well for awhile however rebuilding my projects one at a time was laborious and now whenever i access contacts in a project the Entourage program inevitably crashes.

I used the remove office utility and reinstalled to no avail.

I created a new Entourage identity with no content and that crashed. I then created a new Mac User Account and opened a new Entourage identity which worked.

What in my User Account is causing projects/contacts to crash?
