Receive but not send

Hi,
I am running vista (32) with outlook 2007. The ISP is AOL.
When I use outlook to send or receive, I receive emails ok, but it will not
send emails they just sit in the outbox. I have tried changing the smtp port
number to 587 as per AOL's website with no luck.
Any ideas?

Are you properly authenticating to the outgoing server?
