Receive Msg "Properties for Info Service .." in Outlook 2K

B

Bob Sheldon

I backed (to .pst's)up my client list, calendar, sent
file and tasks just 2 days before my computer died. On
new computer (also XP-Pro), installed Outlook 2K again.
Tried to import the saved .pst's... get
message "Properties for information service must be
defined prior to use". I can send/receive mail ok, but my
client list is my life.

Help!

1. Never import a .pst file - Use File->Open.
2. If your .pst files are on a CD, copy them to your hard drive and remove
the read only tick mark from its properties page.

Millie... I tried that also, same error message. I also
tried scanpst, which ran and repaired the pst file. Upon
opening the repaired pst, the Outlook desktop goes to
a "Recovered Personal Folders" view. but the pst doesn't
appear to open. I may be missing the obvious, but I don't
see it.

A note: I first copies the pst files from the CD into a
directory. I made sure the read-only flag was off.

Thanks.

Do you still have access to the old computer hard drive? It sounds like your
..pst file is corrupt beyond scanpst.exe to fix. If you have access to it,
copy the .pst file to you new computer and try opening it.

Millie... Unfortunately.... No.

Strange ... when I run scanpst against my old pst contacts
file, they are scrunk to under 40K, from about 2M. Ugh.

I'm gunna try loading them on another computer (& another
outlook) this afternoon.

Any other ideas??

Thank you.
Bob

Millie ...

Tried it on another PC... same result. I'm guessing that
I'm toast.
